16,221. Dutton, E. K. July 31. Valve-gear.-The inlet-valve spindle a is operated by a lever b carrying at its ends rollers c, d, which engage cams e<1>, f<1> on countershafts e, f running at equal speeds. When the swell on the cam e<1> passes the roller c, the valve is closed. The position of the cam e<1> may be adjusted relatively to the shaft e by means of differential gearing h, i, k, Fig. 2, or by means of a nut-and-screw device to vary the cut-off. In a modification, the cams e<1>, f <1> are arranged on co-axial shafts. The cams may act upon two levers arranged to serve two opposite cylinders.
