Abstract

24,939. Webster, G. L. Nov. 19. Movable-abutment type.-The hinged abutment and the cut-off valve of a rotary engine are operated by adjustable cams secured to the piston shaft. To the spindle G<11> of an abutment G which is balanced by a weight K<1>, a lever K<3> is secured. This lever is hinged to a link K<4>, sliding between fixed rollers K<5> and provided with a roller K<6> which is engaged successively by the inner and outer surfaces of two cams L, M secured adjustably by clamping-screws to the shaft D, which carries the piston H<1>. The outer surface of the cam L engages the surface N<3> of a feed-valve N which is secured to one end of a lever N<1> which thereby swings on its pivot N<12> and opens the valve. On reaching the surface N<4> of the adjustable finger N<2> the cam L swings the lever N' back again and the valve is closed, the steam then working expansively until it exhausts by the pipe I<1>. The abutment is provided with a projection G<1> and strips G<12>, G<3> for packing purposes and its motion is limited by an adjustable stop O.
