Abstract
15,157. Lichtensteiner, L. June 28. Cam gears.-The valve spindles c<1>, c<2> are actuated by cams e, f on a shaft b through pivoted links h<1>, h<2> carrying rollers g, the admission cam e being arranged between the roller g and the pivot o, while the exhaust cam f is arranged beyond the roller. By this arrangement, in operation, the cams e, f exert respectively tensile and compressive efforts on the links with corresponding acceleration and retardation in the motion of the admission and exhaust valves. In a modification, in which the admission and exhaust valves are uniformly actuated, the links are arranged so as to be perpendicular to the valve spindles when in mid-position.
