Abstract

20,005. Morgan, W., and Wood, E. B. Sept. 4. Cam mechanism.-In an internal-combustion engine, a sliding ring valve is moved in opposite directions from its mid-position to control exhaust and then admission, and is held stationary in its mid-position during compression and working strokes, by means of two cams a, b, acting on rollers d, g, carried by levers c, h, mounted on a common pivot. The two levers are connected by a link k acting through a strong spring m which takes up play due to inaccuracy in the profiles of the cams. The cams are so shaped that when one is operating to move the valve, the pressure between the other cam and its roller is relieved.
