12,091. Mitchison, W. A. May 24. Windows.-Sashes are mounted in carrying- members which are hinged or pivoted horizontally or vertically within the frame. As shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4, the sash a is secured by screws f to rails b, c, pivoted to the head d and sill e of the window frame. In order to maintain a weathertight joint between the sash and the window frame, strips or beads o, pare secured to the sash stiles and to the sides of the window frame, and the carrying members, head, and sill are cut away at k, m, As a modification, the head, sill, and carrying-members may be provided with beads. The carrying-member c is of the section shown in Fig. 2, so that a cavity j is formed between it and the frame, into which moisture condensed on the window pane is conveyed through conduits r from a collecting-channel q in the bottom sash rail and so passes to the outside. The bottom sash rail may be furnished with a weather bar m<1> and the carrying-members may be secured to the frame by thumb-screws or suitable clamps. In the horizontally pivoted window shown in Fig. 6, the sash is prevented from sliding on carrying-members b, c, hinged or pivoted to the frame by springs u, which also press the carrying-members into close contact with the sides of the frame so as to retain the sash when it is in the open position.
