19,816. Bobe, A. H. Aug. 30. Rattling of doors and windows, preventing; draught - excluders. - Relates to means for preventing rattling and excluding draught in windows and doors. Strips or rods b of rubber &c. are secured on metal strips c mounted in grooves in the sash-stiles and pressed outwards against the frame by springs d. Projections, rollers &c. a are mounted on the strips c, and a corresponding series of recesses k is formed in the frame, so that, when the projections a engage the recesses k, that is, in the closed and certain open positions of the sash, the strips b are firmly pressed against the frame. When the sash is moved, the projections leave the recesses, and the strips b are pressed back out of contact with the frame. In the modification shown in Fig. 9, the edges of the strip b of rubber are fixed to the sash stile, and the central portion of the strip is bulged out against the frame by means of the strip c, springs d, rollers a and recesses k as described above. At the meeting rails, a rotatable rod e, carried by a support g and mounted in one of the rails, is pressed against the opposite rail, by springs h. The top, bottom and meeting rails of the sashes may also be provided with strips of rubber to prevent draught and rattling.
