Atmospheric gas and spray burners; blowpipe burners.-A burner for heating smelting - furnaces &c. with heavy hydrocarbons or other liquid or gaseous fuel consists of a tube 29, Fig. 2, introducing the combustible, situated inside a tube 13 and a casing 10, through both of which compressed air is forced. The air supply from the pipe 20 is regulated by a perforated damper 21, and by a sliding ring 24 acting in conjunction with the aperture 18 in the tube 13 and with the annular passage between the ring 17 and the tube 13, the ring being operated by a rod passing through the flange 12. The outer end of the tube 29 is formed with an inlet 34, shown also in.Fig. 4. A wiregauze baffle 16 is carried by arms 14 screwed to the tube 13.
