Abstract

28,780. Lõssoe, V. F., and Lovekin, L. D. Dec. 17. Spray burners.-A burner of the kind described in .Specification No. 20,422, A.D. 1902, [Abridgment Class Furnaces &c.], is provided with an annular and preferably conical chamber F at the outlet end, in which oil under pressure from a central pipe J is intimately mixed with steam or air, also under pressure, entering through two concentric series of orifices C, D from an annular space A, the outer cap E being at the same time kept cool and free from deposit of carbon. When oil and air are used at a low pressure, the orifices G may be cylindrical or narrowing outwards; in the case of higher pressure burners, these orifices flare outwards. One series of orifices in the inner cap C is preferably in alinement with the orifices G in the outer cap, as shown. The outer edge of the outer cap is preferably tapered as at e so as to produce a uniform flame. Instead of the outer series of orifices C of the inner cap being in alinement with those in the outer cap, the inner series D may be made to register with them. The supply of oil is regulated by a valve K, the nozzle H having a sliding fit in the inner cap, so as to allow for a difference of expansion between the tube J and the outer tube A. The burner may be attached to the furnace by means of a flange.
