Abstract
23,138. Latimer, A. Oct. 19. Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic.-A solid tyre for the wheels of heavy vehicles is composed of a plurality of circumferential rows of rubber sections b, Fig. 1, and metal, papier mÔchÚ, wood pulp, or other inelastic sections a arranged alternately across the rim. Each section, Figs. 3 and 4, has a rounded crown a', b<1>, a flat or curved base a<2>, b<2>, parallel sides a<3>, b<3>, and radial ends a<4>, b<4>, and is pierced with holes. Metal rings g enclose the sections, which rest upon a bed of canvasstrengthened rubber and are held together by transverse bolts d, f. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the rows are staggered, metal or rubber sections being in alinement. According to the Provisional Specification, the sections may be threaded on transverse cords or cores of wire, rope, or other material, the ends of which are secured to the rim flanges or threaded on side retaining-bands.
