Abstract

23,261. Cooley, B. Oct. 20. Tyres, pneumatic &c.- A non - skid band for securing on the tread of a tyre comprises a number of transverse bars A, B sharp at one end and threaded in staggered relation on wire, hemp, or other suitable rings x, y, z so that the sharp edges point alternately in opposite directions. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the bars A are threaded on the rings x, y and the bars B on the rings y, z, the sharp ends of the bars being left free. In a modification, the unsharpened edges of the bars are threaded on a single central ring. The wearing-surfaces of the bars may be roughened. The band may be backed by a leather or like strip which may be secured to the rim of the wheel. The tread of the tyre may be grooved to accommodate the non-skid band.
