Abstract
5241. Bardet [nÚe Bon], G. March 4. Spring wheels; tyres, elastic other than pneumatic; felloes or rims.-In an elastic tyre of the kind consisting of an undulatory spring band held loosely in a channel rim by transverse bolts, the band is formed of a number of curved elements riveted together. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each element 1 is of C-form, and is kept within the rim 5 by two bolts 3. The ends of the elements are formed with heels 7, and are riveted across the rim by two pins 2, each end being turned in the opposite direction to that of the adjacent end, i.e. adjacent series are staggered. Leather or other washers are interposed at the sides of the rim as shown in Fig. 2. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the element 9 is formed with a double loop, and each end is riveted to the middle of an adjacent element and the opposite end of another adjacent element, its centre being riveted to the ends of two adjacent elements. The elements may be separated into two or more groups seated in two or more channels, and may be somewhat triangular in shape or may have their ends turned outwardly.
