Abstract
22,451. Briggs, A. Oct. 11. Cramps.-Flooring-cramps have two sets of racks h, n, one for the advancement of the ram g and the other to prevent slipping back. A long handle j is pivoted by the pin k to the body a and actuates the ram through a pawl i engaging the rack h. Two or more auxiliary pawls l, m, pivoted by another pin to the back of the body, engage the rack n and prevent the ram from slipping back, these pawls being arranged so that one comes into action slightly in advance of the next. The body a is secured to a joist by pointed or other screws b on one side and a screw e, actuated by a handle d or band-wheel on the other. For gripping narrow joists, the nuts f may be placed inside the frame, or a wing-nut may be employed for the same purpose.
