Abstract
27,669. Thompson, J. H., and Porter, F. W. Dec. 17. Lifting - jacks. - Relates to a cramp with interchangeable parts for gripping joists, boards, and other kinds of flooring, or for counter floors, reflooring for mills, fireproof flooring, and the like, but which may also be nsed as a lifting- jack. The cramp bar g slides in a groove f and is fixed to a guide-block moving on a screw rotated in bearings b by a handle. The joist is fixed between an eccentric j, with ratchet teeth, on a bolt k and a stud l, and a spike may be driven into it through the hole a<1>. The cramping-bar is then forced out and the head g<1> pressed against the edge of the board. When the cramp is used for flat doors, the eccentric and stud are replaced by pins or spikes. The apparatus may be converted into a lifting-jack by turning on end and removing the eccentric and bolts.
