Description

COMBINATION HAMMER
This invention relates to a combination tool for use in renovation and demolition work.
Background to the invention There are numerous patents to combination tools and combination hammers.
Some of these are designed for particular purposes or pieces of maintenance equipment as in the automobile industry. USA patent 6449789 is one example.
USA patent 4089077 discloses a combination tool including a propeller removal tool. USA application 2005/0172415 discloses a combination tool for truck drivers.
USA patent 6961973 discloses a combination adjustable wrench and hammer for plumbers.
USA patent 4597123 discloses a fire fighters tool including a hammer and a pipe engaging portion. USA patent 6543824 discloses a firβfighting tool.
USA patent 5315725 discloses a multipurpose tool for emergency workers to remove victims from crashed vehicles.
USA patent 5845354 discloses a multipurpose house tool incorporating a hammer and an adjustable vice. Modified traditional hammers have also been patented.
USA patent 3763906 discloses a hammer with a magnetic head that may include a level or measuring device in the handle.
USA patent 5235755 discloses a hammer and spirit level and USA 6122788 also includes a measuring tape in the handle. USA patent 6978503 discloses a hammer with a stud finder in the handle.
It is an object of this invention to provide a combination tool adapted to renovation work where there is a need for tools for demolition and removal and also for construction.
Brief Description of the Invention To this end the present invention provides a combination tool which includes a) a handle b) a head on one end of said handle said head having a striking face, two side faces, an end face and a claw opposite said striking face c) at least one recess in at least one of said side faces or said end face said recess being shaped to grip a nut of a bolt.
The tool of this invention is a preferably a combination hammer primarily designed for renovation work where a combination of demolition and construction requires a range of tools. A major feature is the provision of preferably hexagonal bolt head sockets in the side and end faces of the hammer head. The usual nail claw is also provided on the hammer head. This combination of spanner functionality with claw hammer functionality is particularly useful in modern renovation work where roofing bolts and similar fastenings require a spanner to remove them.. Preferably a curved cutting edge is provided extending between the hammer handle shaft and the nail claw. Preferably the handle shaft includes a ruler section and a grip and the remote end includes another nail claw for leverage. Preferably a groove is incorporated in the hammer head at the junction of the end face and the nail claw for stripping splinters on timber edges.
Detailed description of the invention
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawings in which : Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combination tool of this invention; Figure 2 is a top view of the tool of figure 1 ; Figure 3 is a side view of the tool of figure 1 ;
Figure 4 is a detail of the head of the tool of figure 1 ; Figure 5 is a sectional side view of the head of figure 4; Figure 6 is a sectional end view of the head of figure 4.
The preferred embodiment is a combination hammer for renovation work. The hammer 10 consists of a handle 11 and a head 15. Handle 11 incorporates a grip 12 a shaft 13 with a measuring scale and a large nail claw and lever 14 at the end remote from head 15. The lever 14 is useful in lifting floor board or other heavy items or in removing large nails. The head 15 consists of a striking face 16, an end face 17, two side faces 18 and a nail claw 24.
Sockets 19, 20 and 21 adapted for various nuts particularly those used on roofing bolts are arranged in the side faces 18. The sockets on opposite side faces may be of different diameters. Further sockets 22 and 23 are arranged in the end face 17. Socket 22 as shown is deeper and may be used for a driver bit. The edges and faces of the head are angled at 30°, 45° and 90° to enable timber to be marked in preparation for cutting. Between the end face 17 and the claw 24 is a groove 26 for removing splinters from the edges of timber planks. The groove is positioned over and edge and pushed along the edge . A cutting blade 27 is provided between the nail claw 24 and the handle shaft 13 which is useful in cutting rope and metal strip. The combination of functions enables a tradesman to a range of tasks using just one tool.
From the above it can be seen that this invention provides a unique and convenient tool adapted for renovation and demolition work. Those skilled in the art will realize that this invention may be made in embodiments other than that described without departing from the core teachings of the invention.
