6412. Aston, W. H. March 14. Vices. - A quickadjustment vice is provided with ratchet teeth i formed on the upper side of the sliding bar h and adapted to engage a fixed tooth d projecting from and integral with the socket b, the socket being provided on its lower side with a fulcrum c of an inverted V or other shape upon which the bar may slide and rock. The clamping-plate k is operated by a screw j in the upright g to give a final grip to the work, and is guided by pins l working in slots m in the bar h. The plate k is loosely mounted upon a spherical end of the screw j to enable taper and parallel surfaces to be gripped.
