Combustion Methods Of Internal-Combustion Engines
(AREA)
Abstract
9243. Melhuish, A.G. May 2. Gas and like engines.-The engine is of the type described in Specification No. 9038, A.D. 1895, in which the residual products of combustion are withdrawn from the cylinder by a pump. The invention consists in arranging the pump B at an angle to the cylinder A, preferably a right-angle, connecting it to the same crank as the main piston, making it of larger capacity than the cylinder, and withdrawing all the burnt gases through it and expelling them silently into the atmosphere. A condenser may be situated between the cylinder and pump as shown in dotted lines. [Reference has been directed under Patents Act, 1902, to Specifications No. 5469, A.D. 1881, No. 6151, A.D. 1895, and No. 18,773, A.D. 1904.]
