Abstract

22,224. Wilkinson, J., Wilkinson, T. W., and Shackleton, J. Oct. 15. L o o m shuttlechanging mechanism; s t o p - motions. - Relates to loose-reed and other looms. When the weft fails, the usual weft-fork lever d, Fig. 3, comes in contact with a lever f on a shaft g, and rocks a lever i at the other end of this shaft against the action of a spring 20, so that a bent rod j knocks a rod z under a stud y on a lever x oscillated by an additional tappet w on the tappet-shaft. The rod z is thus depressed and an arm 3 and shaft n are oscillated against the action of a spring 5 so as to bring a projection r on the shaft n against a stud s pulled back by a spring 2. The stud s passes under the shuttle box, and is mounted on a stud t secured to a deflecting-plate p. The deflecting-plate is thus moved into a position to deflect the shuttle from the box. At the same time, the loose front m of the shuttle box, carried by fingers m<1> on the shaft n, is moved forward, withdrawing supporting-plates on the front m from underneath the shuttles in the magazine k, so that a shuttle drops down and is positioned in the shuttle box by the front m, when the various parts are returned to their initial positions by the springs. An elbow lever 13, Fig. 6, carried by a shaft 14 and pressed against the shuttle swell 15 by a spring 13<a>, is, when a shuttle is present, kept in position to miss a block 18 on the spring handle 19. Otherwise, the lever comes in contact with this block and stops the loom. The horizontal arm of the lever 13 is kept in its raised inoperative positions at each alternate pick, when the shuttle is in the other shuttle box, by lever mechanism 8, 10, 11 oscillated by a stud 6 on the wheel 7.
