Loose-reed motions; stop-motions, shuttle.- In a loose-reed loom with the reed normally fast, the levers 7 carrying the reed case are provided with depending fingers 7<1> engaged by cams or tappets 6 on a shaft 3 carried by a bracket 1 on the lay-sword 2. Normally, the cams 6 rigidly hold the levers 7 in the fast position; but, if the shuttle fails to enter the shuttle box or to box properly, the protector mechanism or shuttle swell 12 operates a lever 13 on the stop-rod 10 and causes a finger 11 to move down into the path of a bunter or lever 8 and, as the lay 5 beats up, to rock the bunter and by engagement of the extension 8<1> with one of the cams 6 to rock the shaft 3 and release the levers 7. When the rod 10 is rocked, a finger 14 is lowered and comes into contact with an abutment on the knocking-off lever 15 when the lay beats up, and stops the loom. Springs 16 may return the shaft 3 and cams 6.
