Abstract
5771. Hollingworth, E., [Crompton & Knowles Loom Works]. March 8. Weft - replenishing mechanism; change - box motions.-In gingham or other looms provided with change boxes, bobbin-changing or shuttlechanging mechanism is actuated by special feeler mechanism at the magazine side of the loom, and a warp stop-motion is provided. The feeler mechanism comprises two detectors c<1>, c<2>, Figs. 1 and 6, which are mounted in a bracket c and are pressed forwards by springs so as to contact with the weft and the base of the weftcarrier respectively. A detector slide D, Figs. 6 and 9, fitting in a recess in the feeler c<2> is acted upon by a spring-controlled lever D<1>, and when the weft is sufficiently exhausted to enable the feeler c<1> to move away from the end of slide D, the lever D<1> is rocked and actuates an indicator trip E<3>, which then rocks one of a series of bell-crank levers or stops e<6> on an upright lever or .indicator E, Figs. 1 and 9. This lever is moved up and down in unison with the shuttle boxes at the opposite side of the loom, and has a series of open notches e<5> equal in number to the number of shuttles in use. The upper end f<1> of a camactuated lever F, F' is moved into one of the openings e<5> in the indicator, and if this opening is blocked by a stop e<6> the indicator E is moved in the slotted brackets E<1>, thereby actuating a dagger G against the action of a spring, a pin on the dagger then raising the usual dagger a<1> of the replenishing-mechanism into the path of the lay bunter. The stops e<6> are acted upon by springs, which complete their movements into their active and inactive positions, and the mechanism is so arranged that after the detectors c<1>, c<2> have indicated substantial exhaustion of a certain shuttle the replenishing-mechanism is actuated when this particular shuttle is again picked to the replenishing side of the loom. The upper end of a lever G engages a projection g<2> on the detector c<1> and moves it and the detector c<2> out of the shuttle during the replenishing. An upright shaft H, rocked by a crank and pin- and-link connexion with the lever F, F<1>, has a finger which engages a projection on the under side of the detector slide and moves it back into normal position to enable the detector c<1> to engage behind it. When the replenishing- mechanism is actuated, the arm a thereof actuates a setting-lever K<1>, the lower arm of which extends into an opening in an arm in a sleeve provided with a finger, which engages a setting-finger on the actuated stop e<6> and returns it to normal position. In the mechanism described, a change-box motion of the mastergear and mutilated-pinion type is used, the magazine being rocked in unison with the shuttle-box movements by known mechanism.
