Abstract

22,996. Hollingworth, E., [Crompton & Knowles Loom Works]. Oct. 5. Shuttles, changing bobbins and the like in, automatically.-In weft-replenishing mechanism provided with a multi-compartment magazine 7, Figs. 2, 3, and 9, having rocking cradles 8 respectively operated by rods 22 to release a bobbin from one of the magazine compartments, the rods are moved both upwards and downwards by means of fingers 47 on a lever on a selecting-rod 36, the lever being operated from a single cam-controlled lever 19. The rod 36 is moved laterally in accordance with the change-box movements by means of a balancing- lever provided with two arms resting on cams, one on each of the shafts carrying the mutilated pinions of the change-box motion of the usual mutilated-pinion and master-gear type, the balancing-lever being pivoted on a lever connected bv a chain and rod 41 to a spring-controlled lever 38 operating the rod 36. An extension 47<2> of the lever that has the fingers 47 engages a notched lever 44 pivoted on the rod 36 and linked to the lever 19, which is connected to a cam-operated connector 20. A spring locking-device 45, 46 normally prevents the lever 44 from rocking downwards, but allows it to rock upwards when the connector rises from'the position shown in Fig. 3, the lever 19 then pivoting about a pin 12<b>. When, however, the weft is substantially exhausted, a rod 18, controlled bv feeler-mechanism of the type described in Specification 3271/10, is allowed to remain in position to form a pivotal part for the lever 19, so that, when the connector 20 then moves downwards, the levers 19, 44 are also rocked downwards, as shown in Fig. 9, and the fingers 47 engage an upper projection 22<3> on and raise a particular rod 22, whereby the corresponding cradle is rocked partly to release a bobbin from a particular compartment of the magazine. When the exhausted shuttle again comes into action and the lever 44 is rocked upwards, the fingers 47 depress the raised rod 22 and complete the release of the bobbin. The cradles have pins 8<1> to engage in slots 22<2> with offset parts in the rod 22, whereby, when the rods are raised or lowered, they rock the cradles, while the offset portions allow a bar 22 to move after it has operated a cradle, so that it may then operate a lever 24, which causes the transferring-mechanism to be operated when it is moved downwards.
