Abstract

9927. Hollingworth, E., [Crompton & Knowles Loom Works]. April 23. Shuttles, changing bobbins and the like in, automatically. - In weft - replenishing mechanism wherein a metallic band on the bobbin draws out a magnetic feeler 23, Figs 1 and 3, from an electric solenoid when substantial weft-exhaustion occurs, and thus operates mechanism to cause the release of a bobbin from a selected compartment of the magazine preparatory to its transference intc the shuttle, the vertical rod or other device for actuating the bobbinreleasing mechanism &c. is quickly returned tc normal position immediately after it has been operated. A cam-operated vertical rod 28 gives a rocking motion at every alternate pick to a lever 25, on which is pivoted an arm or lever 26 provided with a dagger 27. A curved part of the lever 26 normally engages the feeler 23, the dagger being thus raised, but when the feeler is withdrawn from its solenoid the dagger remains in position to engage a notched lever 30, and rock it against spring action to cause the operation of the bobbin-releasing mechanism &c. In one form of the invention, the usual angle-lever 13, which is rocked by connexions from pattern surface or from the box-operating lever so as to position longitudinally the usual sliding rod 11, is connected by lever mechanism to a push-pin carrier or arm 36 provided with holes receiving headed pins 38. These pins are each provided with two annular recesses, one of which is engaged by a spring- actuated pin or plunger, whereby each pin may be yieldingly locked in its two positions. When the lever 30 is rocked, a lever 40 linked thereto engages the push-pin alined with this lever 40, and moves it to the left. When the rod 28 is next moved upwards, if the shuttle boxes do not change in the meantime, or otherwise on a subsequent upward movement of the rod, the rod is moved to the left by the engagement of a cam part 44<1> of an adjustable collar 44 with the operated pin, so that a projection 28 on the flattened end of the rod is moved into position to engage and rock a hook - lever 46 against spring action, thus releasing a lever 48, which is thereupon rocked by a spring. The rod 28 is then immediately returned to normal position by the engagement of a cam part 44<2> on the collar 44 with a screw 52 on a stand 53, the push-pin 38 being also returned to normal position, and the upper end of the rod 28 engaging the lever 48 and returning it to normal position. When the lever 48 is first rocked, a yoke-shaped arm 48<2> engages an extended portion 10<3> of the usual rocking lever on the shaft 11, whereby one of the vertical spring-controlled rods operating the usual rocking cradles is depressed, and a bobbin is released from a selected compartment of the magazine. In a modification adapted to the bobbin-releasing mechanism described in Specification 29,808/09, the lever 30, Fig. 13, is directly connected to and operates the usual hooked rod 52, which is moved over one or other of the retaining-arms 53. As the dagger continues to move forwards, it is raised by a shoulder on the notched lever 30 and disengaged from the notch thereof, the lever 30 being then immediately returned to normal position by a spring 30<b>. A cam - shaped arm 55 yieldingly supported by the shaft 28 engages and rocks a lever 54, when the shaft 28 is raised, the upper end of the lever moving inwards to position the feeler, which has been moved outwards by the weft in the bobbin.
