Abstract

92. Jensen, C. A., [Thunes Mekaniske Voerksted Aktieselskabet]. Jan. 1. Fluid governors.-Relates to a method of regulating the speed of a compound condensing steam engine by throttling the exhaust steam as the receiver pressure varies. Two pistons E, K mounted on a common rod D work in two cylinders F, N, of which the cylinder N has the larger diameter. The adjoining ends of the cylinders F, N are connected by pipes G, M to the exhaust pipe A. The other end of the cylinder F communicates with the atmosphere, while the other end of the cylinder N communicates with the receiver through a pipe O. A forked lever C mounted on the spindle of the throttle valve B works between collars on the rod D, and so operates the throttle valve. The valve may be held in the open position by admitting high-pressure steam to the cylinder N through a pipe P.
