Abstract

Nov. 23, 1921, Junction-pieces.-To form the branches of a superheater element, a double bend is imparted to the two tubes o, Fig. 11, and each tube is cut to provide the faces o<3> which are welded together to form a cylindrical tube so that a single tube may be welded to the junction-piece at o<5>. Another method consists in splitting two tubes as shown at p<1>, Fig. 15; they are then opened and shaped by a drift to a rounded end p<2>, Fig. 18, set down over a die as at p<3>, Fig. 20, and cut along the line p<4>. They are then welded together, and to a single tube at p<5>, p<6>, Fig. 24. In another method, a tube q, Fig. 29, of larger diameter than the tubes of the element is swaged down at q<1> to the requisite diameter and flattened to a width equal thereto. The tube is then cut and recessed to receive a glut piece q<4>, Figs. 32 and 35, and the whole is then welded together at q', q<6>, q<7>.
