Abstract

163,864. Stewarts & Lloyds, Ltd., and Watson, T. D. March 24, 1920. Tubes.-Bends 8 for connecting the tubes 15 of superheaters are made from single pieces of tubing by closing one end and forming a division 11 across the other. The end is reduced by suitably shaped rings in an hydraulic staving-machine or under a hammer or otherwise. It may then be stopped by a plug 9, Fig. 2, and is finally closed by means of a smith's snap and peg. The open end is then flattened, pressed between dies to form the division 11, Fig. 5. which may be united or reinforced by oxy-acetylene welding, then trimmed and chamfered or recessed at 14, Fig. 7, for welding to the tubes 15.
