Lift valves; casings; repairing, facilitating.- In a screw-down bib or stop tap, means are provided whereby the tap can be removed for repairs &c. without the necessity of turning off the water at the service pipe. An india-rubber or other suitable ball c is held away from a conical seating, formed in a division b of the valve casing, by means of a loose spindle d, working in a bridge e, carried by one end f of the tap. The portion f of the tap is screwed into the casing a. When the tap is removed, and the spindle d withdrawn, the ball c is pressed on to its seat by the pressure of the water, and so checks the flow of the water until the valve is replaced.
