Abstract

2657. Stombert, A., and Roth, R. Feb. 1. Taps or valves and pipes, connecting.-To allow a water-pipe tap to be removed for repairs without shutting off the supply at the main, the pipe is fitted with an auxiliary self-closing valve. The spigot d, Fig. 1, of the tap is screwed into a sleeve b and normally holds the slotted cylindrical valve a off its seat f on the end of the sleeve. The valve has a washer j secured by a cap i and a sieve n in a ring o may be attached to the valve to reduce the pressure of the outflow and catch dirt. When the tap is removed, the valve closes on to its seat, as shown in Fig. 2. The sleeve b may be screwed into the water pipe or, if necessary, screwed into a recessed connection c which is attached to the pipe.
