Abstract

11,494. Marshall, A. H. May 16. Lift valves; repairing, facilitating.-Relates to means whereby a tap can be unscrewed from its supply pipe for repair, inspection, &c. without waste of liquid and without requiring the supply to be shut off. A tubular casing 1, adapted to receive the threaded end 2<a> of the tap 2 and at its opposite end to screw into the supply pipe 4 or into a boss 3 on the said pipe 4, is provided with a valve seat 6 against which a valve 5 can be forced by the pressure of the liquid, the valve stem 7: being guided through a sleeve 8 on arms 8<a> firmly screwed into the casing 1. A cross-piece 9 on the stem 7 is pressed upon by the end 2<a> of the tap 2 so as to force open the valve 5 when the tap 2 is screwed into place.
