Abstract

21,173. Gasnier, P. J. M. Oct. 2. Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power.-Electro-mechanical means are employed for transmitting the motion of the shaft A, Fig. 1, of a petrol &c. motor M to a shaft K so as to obtain a variable speed of the shaft K or to reverse the direction of running. Two dynamos 1, 2 are employed, and are arranged to act either as generators or motors. The armature B of the dynamo 1 is fixed to the shaft A, and the armature F of the dynamo 2 is fixed to a hollow shaft J surrounding the shaft K. An arm L on the shaft K supports two pinions k, k<1> gearing with bevel-wheels a, j fixed to the shafts A, J respectively, so as to form a differential train. The dynamos are connected electrically, and by suitably regulating the same, e.g. by shifting the brushes, the speed and the direction of rotation of the shaft J can be controlled, the speed of the shaft A remaining constant. By regulating the speed and direction of running of the shaft J, a variable speed may be imparted to the shaft K, or it may be reversed, by means of the differential gearing. In place of bevel gearing, the differential gearing may be built up of pinions k<1>, k<2>, Fig. 2, carried by the arm L' on the shaft K and gearing with the wheels a<1>, j<1> on the shafts A, J respectively.
