Abstract

22,897. Anderson, F. C., and Atchley, C. A., [trading as Harland Engineering Co.]. Nov. 23. [Cognate Application, 6086/15.] Differential governors for maintaining the speeds of separate engines equal or proportionate specially applicable to the electric motors driving paper-making plant. Each motor has a differential governor one end of which is driven by the motor and the other from a common shaft 13, which is driven by one of the motors or by a special motor. By the use of coned pulleys or the like, provision is made for varying the speed of any motor independently of the others. Figs. 3 and 4 show a bevel-wheel governor in which any variation in space of the motor moves a contact-maker over a commutator ring 30 and varies the resistance in the motor circuit. Ball bearings are used in the governor to reduce the power required to to drive it. Fig. 7 shows a governor in which a commutator ring 30<a> is driven by the common shaft, and a contact-maker 33<a> by the motor.
