Abstract

14,965. Lount, S. July 6. Steam &c. turbines.-A multiple-expansion steam or other elastic fluid turbine of the impact-wheel type is shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The turbine wheel 2 is arranged in a casing 2<a>, which has a peripheral chamber 4 divided by a central partition 5 into two channels 5<a>, each of which has transverse walls 13. The walls are set alternately in the two channels, so that steam from the inlet 15 is directed by guide-blades 14 on to the wheel vanes, and passes sideways into the next compartment 7, then crosses into the compartment 8, and so on to the exhaust 16. In a modification, nozzles are arranged in each compartment and direct the steam on to the wheel vanes. In another modification, having a casing formed in halves which are bolted together, the compartments are arranged at the sides of a parallel-flow wheel.
