Abstract

8986. Case, A. W. April 21. Steam turbines.-A reversible outward -flow turbine has a vane wheel 8 with inner and outer rings of vanes 9 on each side. The casing 3 has corresponding rings of guide-blades 6 arranged inside the vane rings. The disc is provided with a partition 11 and has two sets of inclined passages 12, so that steam passes from one of the admission ports 5, which are, respectively, used for forward and reversed running, on to one inner set of vanes, and then through the disc on to the opposite outer set of vanes. The sides of the wheel are fitted with spring packing-rings, arranged in inclined recesses so that the rings are pressed outwards by centrifugal force.
