Abstract

18,270. Freed, M. M. Aug. 23. Steam &c. turbines.- In a triple - expansion, reversible, elastic-fluid turbine, the motive fluid enters the chambers A, B, C through ports 26, 18, 19 respectively, when running in one direction, and the chambers C, B, A through ports 37, 24, 23 when running in the opposite direction. The fluid impinges on helical or inclined blades 13, arranged between fluid-tight flanges 11, 12, formed with or attached to the central webs of the wheels. Handoperated plug valves 20 control the ports in the partitions 2. The valves at both ends of the turbine, for admitting and exhausting steam or other motive fluid to or from the high and low pressure chambers respectively, are connected to, and controlled by, a hand-lever. Packing rings 7 are arranged in the bearings as shown.
