Abstract

27,518. Raab, F. E. Dec. 3. Elastic-fluid turbines.-A reversible parallel-flow turbine is shown in Fig. 1. The turbine-wheel 21, Fig. 5, is mounted on a vertical shaft 30, and has two rings of blades 22, 23 for forward driving and two rings of blades 24, 25 for reversed driving, corresponding rings of guide-blades 15 being formed in annular chambers in the upper part of the casing 1. By means of a valve 4 in the steam-chest 3, steam is admitted to passages 5 in a four-armed distributor leading to an annular supply chamber 14 for forward driving, and through passages 6 to a similar chamber 13 for reversing. The steam, after acting on the inner row of either set of blades, passes through suitable channels in the wheel and casing to the outer row of guide-blades, which direct the steam again on to the wheel blades.
