Abstract
28,125. Courteen, H. Dec. 24. Elastic-fluid turbines.-In reflexed-flow turbines the buckets or deflecting-passages are arranged on the periphery of the rotor so that no portion of a passage is nearer the axis than the admission port. The admission ports are situated in the periphery, and the emission ports may be either in the periphery or the sides of the rotor. In the example shown, double buckets g are used, and central admission ports h are nearer the axis than emission ports i. The buckets are closed on the outer side by rings f and between these rings a nozzle block k is fitted. The nozzle block is movable and may be adjusted to or from the rotor by a screw l. The steam may be returned to the buckets one or more times by passages in the nozzle block k or in a second similar nozzle block. In these arrangements. the buckets are separated. by thicker partitions to obtain a " cut-off " of the steam. The buckets may be formed with a contraction in the part which receives the forward impact followed by a passage which gradually expands towards the outlet. The shaft bearings of the rotor are provided with collars to resist lateral movement, and receive oil delivered to them from a reservoir u<2> by means of a scoop pump u<1>. Waste oil from the bearings passes back to the reservoir through a pipe u<3> and a strainer u<6>.
