Abstract

26,596. P÷rscke, H. P. R. L. Dec. 8. Elastic-fluid turbines.-Reversible turbines are fitted with blades suited for both directions of rotation, preferably those described in Specification No. 26,597, A.D. 1908, and are provided with duplicated systems of guide-blades for use alternatively, so that for either direction of flow there is an increasing arc of admission from stage to stage from the inlet to the exhaust. A turbine of this construction is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1. For forward driving, motive fluid is admitted to nozzles a and passes to the left to the exhaust b, the number of guide-blades increasing successively at each stage. For reverse driving, the nozzles a are closed and fluid is admitted to nozzles a<1>, whence it passes from left to right to the exhaust b<1>, the number of guide-blades in this case also increasing from stage to stage. The exhaust chambers at b, b<1> communicate with a common exhaust pipe, a slide valve g serving to cut off that exhaust chamber which for the time being is out of use, whereby the accidental escape of live steam through the exhaust is avoided. The construction and dimensions of all the rotor wheels are identical.
