626. Gibbins, T. Jan. 9. Cleaning.-Dust &c. is removed from the surface of tin plates and the like by passing them between pairs of rollers, which run at successively-increasing speeds, so as to draw the plates through the machine. The rollers are arranged in two sets, with an intermediate bed. Each set consists of two pairs 11, 13 or 14, 16 covered with sheep skin, and an intermediate pair 15 covered with rubber. The lower set has an additional pair of rubber-covered rollers 17 driven at a lower speed to retard the plate as it issues from the machine. Preferably the top roller of the last pair in each set is not geared, but all the others are driven by spur and belt gearing arranged on the outside of the frame. Bearing-caps 22 with handles 23 facilitate adjustment &c. of the rollers.
