Abstract

362. Torrens, J. A. Jan. 6. Impact-wheels.-The impact-wheel m has a T-shaped rim n, and each flange is formed with vanes o which rotate in channels formed between an outer ring e and an inner ring k. The outer ring contains expanding nozzles g<1> leading out of a steam channel e', which contains a ring-shaped admission valve p with triangular ports p<1> opposite the nozzles. The inner ring contains sets of reversing guides k<3> and expanding nozzles k<1>, so that the fluid pressure again passes through the wheel to exhaust passages h. The vanes on the two flanges may be arranged in opposite directions so that the wheel is reversible. The nozzles may be arranged in series ; high and low pressure wheels may be arranged on one shaft ; and similar. modifications may be made.
