Abstract
27,823. Zottich, F., Mahn, M., and Brandt, E. Dec. 16. Compressing. - A compressor comprises three cylinders a, b, c, by means of which the air is compressed in five stages as it travels in the direction of the arrows. One or two such pumps are enclosed in a w a t e r casing m, and four (instead of five) stages may be worked when the steam pressure is low by replacing the cover e of the cylinder a by another without a valve but with a simple opening. A hand-controlled relief valve q permits of easy starting. Moisture is supplied by a pipe u, and is separated from the compressed air in a vessel x, the air entering at s and escaping at s<1>. The water collects in the bottom of the vessel, and flows into a float y, which it sinks, opening the valve 4 of the water-escape pipe z. The float y is raised at starting by admitting compressed air below the piston 8 through the pipe 6.
