Incandescent lamps.-A lamp is provided with a cap l, Fig. 1, having two projecting lugs m connected to one end of the filament, and a projecting central contact s connected to the other end. A holder for such a lamp consists of two porcelain or other non-conducting pieces b, c, Fig. 2, screwed together, and containing a non-conducting hollow guide e for the supply conductors, an insulating- disc d carrying binding- screws, and a metal lining a. A helical spring k is placed within the lining, and has its inner end bevelled to lie flat thereon. One binding - screw is connected to the lining, and the other to a central contact g. In inserting a lamp, the lugs m on the cap l are passed through slots o into the holder, and then the lamp is rotated so that the lugs engage the spring k as a screw, and the cap advances into the holder, until the central contacts g, s bear on each other. In a modification, the central contact in the holder is a shouldered pin, sliding in metal plates carried on the surfaces of the insulating-disc, and pressed up by a small helical spring, which is sufficiently strong to hold the lamp against the pressure of the larger spring k ; the slots o in the holder are bevelled inwardly.
