Abstract

1673. Birchall, T. Jan. 23. Holders of the bayonet-joint type have sliding bodies with fixed contacts, locking - means for preventing the removal or insertion of lamps, and shade-holding means. In the holder shown in Fig. 1, a sliding body, formed in two parts and pressed outwards by a spring f, has grooves engaging studs on the case to limit its movement. A screwed pin j, passing through holes in the case, normally prevents movement of the body for the insertion or removal of a lamp, and may require a special key. The case is threaded internally to receive a cap g, and externally for shade-holding rings n, k. The upper ring k locks the shade; it may have apertures for the screwed pin j, or it may cover the ends of this pin, or the pin may pass through elongated holes in the case and be pressed on to the shade bv the locking-ring k. According to the Provisional Specification, the locking-pin may be arranged otherwise, and may pass between the spring plungers and the insulating-block of an ordinary holder ; the shade may be attached by an outer screwed cap, having a bell-edge ; and a cord grip may be held by screws.
