Abstract

25,407. Phibbs, J. P. Dec. 22. Incandescent lamps, holders for. A bayonetcapped lamp o is held by the ordinary pins and slots, and by pressure of spring tongues, in a socket e, which slides longitudinally on a grooved insulating-body h, to enable the lamp to be placed in or out of contact with two terminals k' fixed in the body. The socket e has oblique projections or slots in engagement with corresponding parts of a cylindrical case a, which is held between a shoulder and a split ring on the body h, so that it can be turned thereon, to raise or lower the socket. The split ring is secured by a nut l<2> screwed on it. A spring c in the case a assists downward movement of the socket, to quicken the break of contact. The insulating- body h may be in one piece, made with an axial hole to pass the conductors k, a transverse opening to receive a supporting - knot thereon, and a central partition to separate the contact-pieces k<2>; or the upper part of the body may be of metal, with two extensions fitting in recesses in an insulating- portion. The body may be screwed into a coupling- nut on the end of a supporting-bracket, this nut supporting the case a also. The case a may be made with a lining tube in which the oblique slots are provided, the outside being provided with an ordinary shade-carrying shoulder, screw, and nut. The Provisional Specification describes slight modifications, and also the use of a loose ring and spring on the outside of the case, to cause a quick break ; the oblique slots for operating the socket e are slightly recessed to hold the pins at their ends, and, when contact is to be broken, the loose ring is turned on the holder, straining the spring until projections on the ring and case come in contact, when the pins are dislodged from the recesses, and the spring completes a rapid movemeat of the case and socket.
