Abstract
1227. Landsberger, A. Jan. 17. Incandescent lamps.- Bulbs are made with flat ends to carry contactplates. One plate is formed as a ring surrounding the other, to make contact with spring plungers i in the holder l, m, but may be partly cut away in order that the lamp may be put out of circuit by turning it in the holder. No fixed cap is used on the bulb, this being formed with a circular rib b or channel c to engage corresponding portions of two semicircular sleeves d<1>, d<2>, which are applied to the bulb and then inserted in the holder, as shown. The sleeves may be made of perforated metal lined with asbestos, hinged together at the upper end, reflecting at the lower end ; they may have projections to enter recesses in the bulb, to prevent relative turning. They are made with projections p to engage a circular channel in the socket l of the holder, or with a screw-thread to engage a screw socket. The socket l of the holder is similarly attached to a base m. In a modification, the fixed socket l is dispensed with, the sleeves being hinged to the base m, and held together on the bulb by slipping a ring upon them.
