EDWIN F. G-U'IH, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO ST. LOUIS BRASS MANUFAC- TUBING COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MIISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
LIGHTING FIXTURE.
Application filed April 25, 1919.
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EnwiN 1*. GUTH, a citizen oi? the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis, State oi lV issouri, United States of America, have invented a certain new and useful Lighting Fixture, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved lighting fixture and particularly to means whereby lamps of different sizes can be applied to the fixture and at the same time the proper relative position of the lamp filament with respect to a light shield or reflector may be maintained.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side View partly in cross section and partly in elevation of a fixture embodying my invention; Figure 2 is a vertical cross section of the fixture supporting member and lamp socket and associated parts; and Figure 8 is a horizontal cross section on the line 33 of Figure 2.
1 represents a supporting shell to which the reflector 2 is connected by means of thumb screws engaging with the collar on the reflector as shown. The light shield 3 surrounding the lamp 4; is suppqrted from the reflector 2 by spindles 5.
The particular form of lamp receptacle illustrated comprises a socket proper 6 and threaded clamping member 7 which engages the outer surface of the threaded'shell 8 attached to the lam socket and adapted to receive the lamp. he plate 9 is provided with a central opening receiving the reduced portion of the member 7 and is clamped between this member and the socket. This plate 9 is provided with three preferably integral arms 10 which extend downward and are provided Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, 1922.
Serial No 292,538.
with bends "forming shoulders which are adapted to engage with the openings 11 in the shell I. These openings 11 are in portions of the shell which are pressed out to form channels whereby the arms 10 are guided from one 01": the openings 11 to the other. As additional means for preventing the plate 9 from turning relative to the socket 6, this socket is provided with a short lug 12 engaging with a correspondingly shaped recess in the plate 9.
Incandescent lamps of different candle power are of different size and over all length, consequently in order that the filament of a lamp of a larger size may occupy approximately the same position with respect to the reflector and shield as the filament of a lamp of smaller size, the position of the lamp receptacle must be changed and it will be observed that this change is made possible in a very simple and convenient manner. The arms 10 are resilient and only a comparatively slight pressure on the lamp is neces sary to disengage them from one set of the openings 11 and move the receptacle to another set of openings higher or lower than the first as desired. The channels in the shell guide the engaging shoulders of the arms 10 from one opening to another.
Having fully described my invention what Ll claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
In a lighting fixture the combination with a shell provided with vertically aligned openings, of a two part lamp receptacle within said'shell, means on said receptacle having resilient extensions adapted to engage with the openings in the shell, said shell also being provided with a groove to guide the extensions of the plate from one opening in the shell to another.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and ailixed mv seal.
