Incandescent lamps; supporting lamps-In a form of imitation candle, for use in brackets, electroliers, &c., the lamp a, Fig. 1, shaped to fit partly into the opal-glass cylinder b, is supported by concentric metal tubes c, e, separated by a glass or other insulating tube d, and attached to a plug g which fits into a holder,shown in Fig. 5, adapted for insertion into a candle socket. On the outer tube c is screwed an adjustable ring having spring arms h which grip the lamp -cap i. An insulated plug k on the cap i fits into the inner tube e. The tubes c, e are connected to contacts on the plug g, which has a metal casing f, screwed or provided with pins to fit the holder, Fig. 5. The inside of the latter is similar to that of an ordinary Edison or bayonet-joint holder, but it is provided outside with a metal flange 3 and spring tongues (not shown) to engage the candle socket. A perforated screw cap 7, through which pass the leads, secures the insulating-base 8 in position. The opal cylinder b is supported by a loose washer or flange z, and its illumination may be increased by plating, enamelling, polishing, &c. the outer metal tube c. In a modified form, the outer metal tube, from which the spring arms are in this case insulated, slides in a tube attached to an adapter having a cylindrical ring of rubber or cork compressed between flanges, to fit the candle socket, and the leads are attached directly to the inner metal tube and to the ring carrying the spring arms h, respectively. By means of a screw in the sliding tube and a slot in the fixed one, the former can be secured in position to suit opal tubes of various lengths.
