Abstract

967,819. Lampholders. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 11, 1963, No. 27580/63. Heading H2E. A lamp fitting includes a heat conducting metal housing 13 (Fig. 1), a contact member 10 mounted within the housing for engagement with a contact of the lamp and a metal clip 19 mounted on the housing and having jaws 20, 21 (Fig. 2) adapted to engage a part 7 of the lamp envelope 4 to be cooled, the clip being adapted to conduct heat from the part 7 to the housing. The tubular metal housing 13 is supported by a block 15, having cooling fins 16, screwed to one end of the main structure casing 17. The socket contact 11, supplied through lead 12, is supported in the ceramic body 10, which is mounted within the housing 13 and biased towards the lamp by spring 14. The filament of the lamp is supported at 5 and connected by a molybdenum strip embedded in the seal 7 to a button contact carried by the ceramic end-piece 8. The envelope 4 of the lamp, which may be of the tungsten-iodine type, is preferably of fused quartz, because of the high wall temperature. The heat conducting clip is formed in two halves 18, 19 joined by a spring strip 26 and has one end embracing the housing and at the other the jaws gripping the seal 7 having an I-shaped cross-section. To remove the lamp, the lugs 23, 24 of the clip are pressed together.
