Abstract
13,736. Light, S. E. July 31. Water-tube boilers; feedwater, heating and purifying.-Concentric fire and water tubes are secured into sinuous headers in the manner shown in Fig. 4, the fire-tubes passing through removable stuffing-boxes e and the water-tubes being expanded into holes with recessed bosses to receive packing k ; or, in a modification, Fig. 5, the firetubes pass tightly through glands a<1>, which are tightened against packing at b<1>. The headers are divided by inclined transverse partitions b, as shown in Fig. 1. The front or rear headers are connected above and below to transverse water and steam drums D and E, which are connected together by external vertical pipes G. The drums E are connected to a series of longitudinal steam drums F. Feedwater is introduced by a pipe r descending through the pipes G as shown, and rises through filters t.
