Abstract
24,137. McQuilkin, C. M. Dec. 4. Bushes; lubricating.-Relates to bearings for shafts, spindles, axles of wheels, &c. A loose sleeve A is interposed between the bearings B and the shaft C. Perforations a may be made in the sleeve to facilitate lubrication. The sleeve may be retained in place by flanges on the bearing, or by flanges on its ends, or, in the case of a vertical shaft, by a flange on one end. Fig. 9 shows a sleeve with a central rib a<2>, the bearing- block in this case being formed with a central recess. In some cases, the sleeve has the central portion spherical, either hollow, or solid as shown in Fig. 14. Conical sleeves may also be used. To diminish friction at the ends of the sleeve, loose rings E may be inserted as shown in Fig. 15<b>.
