Abstract

Roller bearings.-In a roller bearing for shafts, axles, &c. of the kind in which relatively short rollers run in a race in one ring and on a plain track on another ring, or in races in both rings, one of the rings is free to rock on its seating in order to distribute the load uniformly along the roller. The ring a, Fig. 6, has a spherical surface b which rocks on the surface of the casing m, or on the shaft. Instead of the spherical surface b, the ring may have a rounded circumferential projection or a series of projections engaging a plain surface or a groove of greater curvature than that of the projection. Fig. 4 shows a form in which a projection i on the casing c engages a groove j in the ring a. The curved surface may be formed on a separate ring applied to the ring a. Fig. 6 shows a multiple arrangement in which a sleeve m has a spherical seating in an outer casing c.
