6765. Wingquist, S. G. March 17. Ball bearings.-A ball bearing of the kind described in Specification 17,069/08, in which two outer race rings have a spherical seating in an enclosing - ring formed with notches through which the race rings may be removed when turned at right-angles to their normal position, is modified to take radial loads in addition to axial thrusts. As shown in Fig. 3, two rows of balls are used, and the direction of the pressure on each ball is along a line crossing the shaft obliquely. The outer race rings 6, 7 have a spherical seating in a ring 8. Each row of balls has a spacing-cage consisting of a ring 22 formed with curved tongues 20 separating the balls; the two rings 22 are in contact and support one another. In a modification, a single row of balls bear against the rings 6, 7 and run in a groove in the inner race ring 3. Fig. 5 shows a modification, in which two rows of balls 10, 13 take substantially radial loads, the thrust being taken by two rows of smaller balls 11, 12 bearing against a central flange 3xx. The two rows on each side may be arranged to run on the same curved surface of the ring 6 or 7. Another modification resembles one half of the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, two rows of balls being used, but the flange 3xx has a spherical edge fitting into the ring 8 and forming the second outer race ring.
