Ball bearings.-To enable a ball bearing to be applied readily to a shaft, the race rings are divided horizontally, the lower parts A, A<1> being formed with pairs of prongs F and the upper parts B, B' with tongues which fit between the prongs. Tapered holes are formed through the prongs and tongues to receive tapered pins E. The inner parts A', B<1> are secured to the shaft by a split tapered bush D or by one or more keys D'. A clamp for raising the upper parts of the bearing is shown in Fig. 3. The parts B, B<1> are clamped between projections K, K' by a screw M, and projections N, N' on arms J, J<1> enter the ball race to retain the balls when the clamp holding the bearing is raised.
